North Halifax Ferret Rescue

North Halifax Ferret Rescue was run by Sam & Andy Beattie
Andy Beattie (40) has kept working ferrets since 1987
he is well-known in the ferret community, and has attended and judged at ferret shows around the country.
Sam Beattie (34) fell in love with ferrets in 1999.
In 2003, when she saw the sterling work that other rescues do, she said
'We could do that!'
Halifax is near the centre of Great Britain,
it is almost 1/2 way between Land's End (South coast) & John O' Groats (North coast),
and almost 1/2 way between Blackpool (West coast) and Scarborough (East coast).
We ran the rescue from our home and our own pockets to help ferrets in need of the love and attention that they deserve.
We have a very large, purpose built, ferret shed, with room to comfortably house around 40 ferrets,
plus we quarantined newcomers in our own home, before we introduced them to the other ferrets.

Many people think that ferrets are little animals that bite, but this is not always the case.
A ferret may bite in defence, but they are not aggressive by nature, they are affectionate and very intelligent.
A well-cared-for ferret will return the affection given ten-fold.
There are no bad ferrets, the owner creates the temperament by how the ferret is kept & looked after.
If you are looking to re-home a ferret, expect a home visit.
Most, if not all rescues, do not condone the breeding of rescue ferrets!
But some do not have a problem with you working them.
There are ferret rescues all over the UK with kits during the breeding season,
(due to over-breeding and no homes for the kits)
please do not add to the problem by needlessly breeding, just for the sake of obtaining 1 more ferret.
Why not adopt a rescue instead?
Rescues can help with any advice, or questions you may have regarding ferrets,
even if it is only advising where you may find the information.
There are much better alternatives to breeding for bringing a jill out of season
Spay = no more seasons
Jill jab = hormone injection to bring her out of season
False mating = use a vasectomised hob to bring her out of season
